Mary and the Bear
Mary was a kind and happy girl who lived in a small wooden house near a quiet and very large green forest.
She loved to walk among the tall trees and listen to the birds sing their sweet songs every single sunny morning.
One day, Mary went deeper into the woods and saw a big brown bear sitting alone near an old hollow tree.
The bear looked very sad and was holding its paw up in the air because a sharp thorn was stuck deep inside.
Mary felt sorry for the poor bear and slowly walked closer to help without making any loud or sudden scary sounds.
She spoke in a soft and gentle voice so the big animal would know she was a true and caring friend.
The bear looked into her calm eyes and slowly held out its large brown paw for her to take and examine.
Very carefully, Mary held the thick paw and gently pulled the sharp thorn out with her small but very steady fingers.
The bear let out a happy little growl and began to lick her hand to say thank you for her kindness and help.
From that day on, the big bear and little Mary became the very best of friends in the whole wide world.
Every morning, the bear would come to the edge of the forest and wait for Mary with a big friendly smile.
They walked together under the tall trees and shared delicious berries and nuts that they found near the river stream.
The other animals in the forest saw their friendship and they all learned to trust Mary as a true friend.
Mary learned that kindness can build a strong bridge between even the most different of hearts in nature.
She always remembered that a small act of kindness can change a life and create a beautiful story of love.
