The Long Night
The sun disappeared behind the tall mountains, leaving the small village in complete darkness. A cold wind began to blow through the empty streets, and the houses became very quiet.
Elena sat alone by her small window, looking up at the black sky. She could not see the moon or the stars. The night felt heavy and strange, with no light anywhere.
She lit a small candle and watched the tiny flame dance. The soft yellow light pushed the shadows away, but the rest of the room remained dark. Outside, the wind howled loudly.
Suddenly, she heard a soft knock on her wooden door. Her heart beat fast. Who would visit her on this long, dark night? She stood up slowly and walked to the door.
She opened the door and saw a small, wet cat. Its eyes were big and green, and it shivered from the cold. Elena smiled gently and picked up the poor animal carefully.
The cat purred softly and felt warm in her arms. Elena closed the door and gave the cat some milk. The little creature seemed thankful, rubbing its head against her hand.
Time passed very slowly as the night continued. Elena talked to the cat about her life, her dreams, and her fears. The cat listened quietly, blinking its bright eyes at her.
The candle grew shorter, but the darkness outside remained thick. Elena felt less alone with her new friend. Together, they waited for the first light of the morning to arrive.
She told the cat a story about the sun, describing its warm golden light. The cat closed its eyes, as if imagining the beautiful sunrise. The wind finally stopped its noise.
A soft grey light appeared on the horizon. The long night was finally ending. Elena smiled, holding the sleeping cat. The new day brought hope, peace, and a gentle warmth.
